Europe’s Werewolf Trials paralleled the more infamous Witch Trials in the 15th – 17th century, yet the confessions of accused werewolves were even more bizarre, including lurid tales of bestiality, cannibalism, serial killing, and deals with a shapeshifting Devil. Come explore how the Church integrated pre-Christian folk beliefs into its cosmology to construct a new category of witchcraft: the witch as a wild animal, an uncivilized and uncivilizing force that represented the perils of life away from religion.
